Making digital skills easier to understand.
Created a digital learning experience built around short, engaging introductions that help people build confidence and develop essential digital skills.
Educational content needs to capture attention before it can make an impact. The challenge was to create a digital experience that encouraged people to explore unfamiliar subjects, discover useful information and engage with learning in a more accessible way.
BiteSize Intros used a distinctive, character-led approach, bringing educational topics to life through short introductions and an energetic visual identity. The website needed to support this personality while making the content easy to browse and understand.
The experience had to balance entertainment with usability: clear navigation, recognisable topic categories and a straightforward route from discovering a subject to exploring its content.
The experience was built around a distinctive red, orange and yellow visual identity, supported by bold typography, strong graphic shapes and presenter-led imagery.
Johnny Vegas brought an instantly recognisable personality to the experience, helping establish an informal, engaging tone. The interface carried that energy throughout, using prominent calls to action, expressive imagery and clear visual hierarchy to encourage exploration.
Rather than treating the website as a conventional information portal, the design made discovering content part of the experience itself. Navigation and topic discovery were central to the interface, giving users a straightforward way to find introductions relevant to their interests.
The website brought together introductory content, topic discovery and supporting information in one cohesive experience.
The key areas included:
Introduction: Establishing the BiteSize Intros concept and encouraging users to explore.
What are BiteSize Intros?: Explaining the format and purpose of the experience.
What's in it for me?: Communicating the value of short, accessible introductions.
Who's behind BiteSize Intros?: Introducing the people and expertise behind the content.
Interactive topic search: Helping users discover relevant introductions through search and category browsing.
Knowledge and learning content: Giving users a route into subject-specific material.
Topic discovery was organised around four main categories: IT and digital; Work and employability; Health and wellbeing; and Equality and diversity.
The result was a recognisable, personality-led interface that made the experience feel approachable while keeping navigation and content discovery at its core.
The project combined interface design and web development to translate the creative direction into a cohesive digital experience.
The emphasis was on making the visual identity work as part of the user journey: ensuring navigation, content presentation, topic categories and interactive elements supported the overall experience rather than competing with it.
The modernised case-study concepts explore how the original experience could be presented through contemporary responsive layouts, with clearer spacing, refined content hierarchy and a consistent approach across desktop and mobile.
The accompanying CMS screens are conceptual illustrations of how content could be organised and maintained in a modern Umbraco back office. They demonstrate a possible editorial structure for landing-page content, topic categories, introductory copy and supporting media; they are not intended to represent verified screenshots of the original implementation.
BiteSize Intros brought together presenter-led content, a distinctive visual identity and accessible navigation to create a learning experience with personality.
By combining the recognisability of Johnny Vegas with a bold, energetic interface and a clear route into educational content, the project demonstrated how creative direction and practical web development can work together to make digital learning more inviting.
The project remains a strong example of creating a digital experience around its audience: using personality to attract attention, design to guide exploration and technology to bring the experience together.
